Academic Article Writing
Preparation before registration:
- Decide on a time when you will be able to focus on the article you would like to write (As a rough guide: 3 weeks for the writing and one week for critical reading and consultation);
- Make sure you have all the material ready before you register (literature already sourced, data collection completed, and data already analysed);
- Decide on the target journal and make sure you have access to their website for author guidelines and back issues with examples of recent published articles (consult co-authors/supervisors before registration and make a firm journal choice);
- Make sure your supervisor/co-authors have approved the quality of the discipline specific knowledge you will be writing on during the workshop.
After registration:
PHASE 1: Contracting (setting goals and time frames)
PHASE 2: Watch video one and write introduction and submit to Ruth
PHASE 3: Receive feedback on introduction together with consultation session
PHASE 4: Watch the rest of the videos and apply the principles in completing the article before submission for critical reading
PHASE 5: Final feedback and consultation with Ruth
How long will it take?
Registration entails enrolling for a ONE month period. During this time, you have access to the video material, critical reading, email access and consultation. You set your own time frame during that month and submit your plan to Ruth at the start so she can check in with you to help with accountability and progress for completion. As a rough guide, set aside approximately 40 hours for crafting the article. Plan your programme to ensure your consultation on the completed article falls within the one month period.
